Monsters are out in Badtime

Title: Monsters are out in Badtime

Artwork Treatment:

i) Description: The artwork is to focus on the things that the society never realized within our culture. The idea that the child at home is safer than being outside, but we never realized the monsters that's lurking within the four walls of our home; especially the ones we never thought what it seems to be. The teddy bear represents one of the most unexpected elements that might cause a major harm towards the child. A teddy bear is known as a child's comfort item as they will held on to their favourite soft toy whenever they felt afraid. The artwork shows the contradiction where the child's "comfort and saviour" turned it's claws to the child instead of protecting them from the harm within the house hold. The teddy bear represents as one of the relatives that the child is close too. This type of abuse had happened within our society but turned a blind eye as the child was too afraid to speak up for help.

Whales and aTick
Title: Whales and a Tick

Artwork Treatment:
i) Description: The artwork depicts how the creative mind is being manipulated and oppressed by those who are in the higher ups, especially overpowering others by wealth and status. The mind of the "maid" - the one who is being manipulated and oppressed (symbolized by the chain) by the "purple lady". The checkered floor symbolizes the game of life which all of us have to went through- who will be sacrificed, who will over power the other. The "other world" that the "maid" had in her mind is a combination of peaceful, creative and better life that all of us had in mind. The whale represents - creativity, peace and love. Crimson Butterflies represents society that lives in harmony and the colours in the "other world" represents something that contradicts the life that uses the concept of the stronger overpowers the weaker ones.

Title: Bubbly Butterfly

WIP: Whales and a Tick

Like the last two drawings, everything was done from scratch but was referred from the original design.

The same style of shading and lighting is still the same. - creating multiple layers with different shades of the same colour and use eraser to create the effect (feathered, opacity and flow <20)

Then, using this image

with a series of blending option, hue/saturation modifications (image > adjustment > hue/saturation)

we then placed it above the hair

Different brushes were used to create the flowers and bubbles.

Then adding a little effect using filter gallery > sumi-e effect.

Then, using picture of clouds

Taking only 1/4 from the bottom, add it to the original work space (duplicate 2 layers) and use overlay and multiply effect (both with opacity less than 30).

now adding other elements to create balance and harmony in terms of colours!

and for the background, I've used checkered floor and brick wall stock photos to create a darker background. both are taken from google.com

Using overlay technique on the brick wall and hue/saturation to create a certain pattern for the background.

On the floor, there's a reflection which i had the layers with the maid and purple lady duplicated, rotated and opacity lower than 50.

then using filter once again. I've used texture > canvas.

WIP: Bubbly Butterflies

As usual, the same style- redraw everything from scratch using Line tool + Warp ( Edit > Transform > Warp )

Then starts with the basic colours -

Onwards with shadings! This time using the burn tool -mainly with shadow and midtones

starts with the skin first because it's the easiest. Note: hiding all other colours to make things easier to see the shading.

a little on close up on how the skin's shading is done.

the picture sequence above, the technique is the same used for the monster's lips shading but this time with more experiments with blending technique and levels.

now with BACKGROUNDS!

for the background technique, it's the same with the first artwork, randomly picking a picture, and did mutliple copies with different blending options.

in this case.

black paint full (opacity 62, fill 41)
Overlay
Normal (opacity 76)
Differences (opacity 76)
black paint full (opacity 65, fill 39)

Making bubble! tutorial can be found here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S12lhjGjv38

Filter > noise. This is to create the effect of a dissolving bubble.

Butterfly brush effects are taken from the internet.

Lastly, add noise to the background to create a less glossy surface to blend in well with the original image.

and canvas texture effect from Filter gallery  Filter > Filter Gallery > Texture > canvas

WIP: Monster comes out in Badtime.

It starts by redrawing the whole lineart using Line + Wrap ( Edit > Transform > Warp )

After completing the last composition of the subjects, select all the layers , right click > merge all layers.

Note: Before starting any colouring, use a new layer to avoid errors.

In this section here, to have the colours stay within in an area, use the magic wand tool and select an area. If wish to go into details, after selecting an area, press Q (this will enable mask) and allows the option to use brush and eraser. Once satisfied, press Q again to go into selection mode.

-use option paint bucket and click on the selected area to fill it with the desired colour.

-Use shape tools to create circles and compose accordingly.

shading on the lips are done with three different layers, three different shades of red.
The tools used is only eraser tool (opacity >20 flow >20) and "paint" to create shading and lighting

Using the same style to create the shading on the face, and adding the colours to the other details. (flowers and more polkadots).

same style used for the bear's claws and using texture brush that was downloaded from the net to create the fire effect.
The same brushes use to create the "huge stardust" / "glowing goo" on the second monster.
The first phase of completion.

Now onwards with the background image!

However, i don't really like the original composition so I went off to seek proper pictures of a bedroom.

select the area that is needed, use the move tool (cursor) and drag it over to the workplace. and place it at the bottom of all the layers.

then, do multiple copies of the layers for experimenting and blending options..
In my case, I used the first top layer for the bedroom interior in filter (dry paint + sponge effect to create a very blurry and painting-ish effect)

Then using the texture brush again, i create the fog/smoke effect and use eraser (opacity + flow >20 and experiment with the blending option until it achieve the feeling i opt for.

end product. (lol. sorry or skipping for the background. I've merged and accidentally pressed Ctrl+S)

Series: Society and Culture

Reference Artist: Yosuke Ueno, Junko Mizuno

Art Movement: Pop Surrealism / Lowbrow Art.

Introduction

I've chosen this series because it's an everyday lifestyle that we seemed to always never take notice. We always perceived our society as normal and decent but in another light, we never seemed to put ourselves in other's shoes to actually see the wrongs that we see in ourselves. This is not focused to any audience because each and every what they see, they will perceive it differently.

Problem Statement

The problems I'm going to focus is on the irony of our culture. The things we never thought is crucial but in fact it is especially the growth of a child in the society.

Purpose of Content

Is to create an awareness on small matters that surrounds us.

Research content

-who is the enemy behind the covers?
- what did we never see?
